Code Commerce is coming to San Francisco with Jack Dorsey and Apple Pay’s Jennifer Bailey


Plus Wish CEO Peter Szulczewski, too.

We’ve barely come down off the high of last night’s Code Commerce event in Las Vegas, but we’re already — as the cool kids say — on to the next one.

On Dec. 6, Kara Swisher and I are hosting our last Code Commerce gathering of the year at Westfield’s Bespoke event space in the heart of San Francisco. You won’t want to miss it.

If you’ve been to one of the first two Recode events in the Code Commerce Series, you know what to expect: Sharp, candid onstage interviews with the entrepreneurs and execs driving change in the e-commerce and payments industries. We also make sure to give you plenty of time to get to know the roomful of your smartest peers over food and drinks before the programming begins.

That’s enough from me. Here’s the outstanding lineup of speakers you’ll hear from that night:

  • Jack Dorsey certainly has his hands full with Twitter these days. But he’s also the founder and CEO of publicly traded Square, too. After single-handedly creating the market for phone-dongle payments, Square is working to prove to Wall Street it can be more than that. From its fast-growing lending business to its restaurant delivery service, Caviar, Dorsey and team are betting the Square of the future is a platform of small-business products and not just a payments company.
  • Apple executive Jennifer Bailey has been with the company for 13 years, first running all of Apple’s e-commerce sites and now heading up the digital payments service Apple Pay. While there’s still industry debate about whether Apple Pay’s tap-and-pay payments are the future of in-store shopping, most smart industry people agree the new Apple Pay for the web is going to be huge. Add to that rumors of a new MacBook Pro with a fingerprint sensor built in for Apple Pay purchases, and we are going to have a whole lot to discuss with Bailey in December.
  • If you haven’t heard of Wish or its CEO Peter Szulczewski, you probably live on one of the coasts. The shopping app is consistently the second most-popular one in the U.S., behind only Amazon, attracting middle-of-America shoppers drawn to its bargain-basement prices. The fast-growing app has also developed a huge international customer base, fueled by aggressive Facebook advertising, that has helped push its valuation to $3.5 billion and attracted Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com as an investor. Szulczewski has said he believes Wish will eventually be a trillion-dollar-marketplace. The question is whether it can cut down on the weeks-long delivery times and occasionally subpar products that scare off some shoppers.
