Twitter’s Periscope adds 360-degree live videos

Periscope is still plugging along.

You can now use Twitter’s livestreaming service, Periscope, to broadcast 360-degree live videos directly to the Twitter timeline.

The videos load just like regular live broadcasts, but users can tilt and rotate their phone to see a full panorama shot. You can try it out in the video below.

This is the same feature Facebook announced earlier this month, but it’s the second significant update from Periscope in the past month, which seems to be plugging along despite Twitter’s decision to kill off some of its non-core businesses back in October.

Broadcasting 360-degree video live will be limited to Twitter’s “select partners” at launch, though anyone can watch them. A company spokesperson says that Twitter is not paying these partners to use or promote the product.
